Balance and Gait Training

balance training

Do you find that your balance is not what it used to be? Do you find that walking distances becomes tiresome and you may even be using an assistive device such as a cane or walker to get around? Your body’s ability to balance through the vestibular system allows you to walk without problems.

Balance-Training Program

Physical activities that most of us take for granted are a constant struggle for people with balance disorders. OnetoOne Physical Therapy provides a focused balance-training program for patients recovering from strokes, Parkinson’s disease and other debilitating conditions. What sets OnetoOne apart from other facilities that offer balance-training is our ability to offer both land based and aquatic based training. By utilizing aquatic therapy for balance disorders, the patient experiences more flexibility and mobility in a safe and secure environment.

Advantages of Balance Training and Aquatics:

  • Balance reactions and other tasks are inherently trainable in the right environment
  • The pool provides an exceptional and safe environment to work in
  • Patients may be challenged beyond their limits of stability in the water
  • The pool enhances reduction in patient anxiety
  • The water prevents rapid falling and extends the period of time in which a patient may react
  • The water offers a three dimensional environment of both support and resistance

Stroke Rehabilitation

Patients who have suffered strokes can gain improved motor function through specialized therapy at OnetoOne Physical Therapy. Rather then teaching patients to compensate for difficulties with canes or other tools, we use the Feldenkrais Methods, Neurological Development Training and aquatic therapy programs to help patients retrain their bodies to achieve proper motor function and return to normal activities.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

Vestibular rehabilitation is an exercise approach to the remediation of disequilibrium and dizziness symptoms associated with peripheral vestibular pathology. Vestibular rehabilitation is a form of treatment involving specific exercise designed to (1) decrease dizziness; (2) increase balance function; (3) increase general activity levels. The exercise program is designed to promote central nervous system compensation for the inner ear deficit.
